The sound of inevitability crashing through the wall

by Dylan on October 21, 2012

I was at F.ounders for about ten seconds last week (I know, I know) and met only a fraction of the awesome people I should have. However I did get to have coffee with the mother of a young developer who’s just entered secondary school (high school).

Her son has been programming games for the last two years. The school in question has a new computer lab but only teaching resources for students in second year onwards. And what will her code-writing son learn when he eventually reaches this point? Powerpoint and Word.

We have a huge problem here.

CoderDojo is a superb movement with enormous merit (and it’s clear that James Whelton is just getting started). But we need to get this expertise into classrooms faster. How do we help teachers make this happen?
